Applications Analyst

Richards, Layton & Finger, Delaware’s largest law firm, seeks an innovative Applications Analyst for its IT team in Wilmington, DE. This position’s responsibilities would include:

  • Working with attorneys, support departments and personnel to support software technology needs in all areas of practice;
  • Customizing applications, developing macros, queries, script files, and batch files for automating various tasks;
  • Evaluate user requirements to develop databases and spreadsheets that will enhance efficiency and productivity;
  • Designing enhancements, and upgrades for the Firm's SharePoint environment.
  • Researching, evaluating and experimenting with new software as needed;
  • Installing, updating and maintaining software applications and databases;
  • Administration and maintenance of the Firm’s SQL databases and Software Systems, including routine off-hours maintenance.
  • Maintain ‘detailed’ documentation for the Firm’s applications, including configuration, Patching procedures and customization information.
  • Provide timely problem troubleshooting for software issues escalated by User Support; both during and after hours.
  • Work with the Firm’s technical staff to maintain current database records for change management.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Thorough knowledge of complex automated information systems as normally acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in MIS, computer science– or, the equivalent experience;
  • Two to five years of progressively responsible work experience with legal or other professional service organizations in order to gain experience in managing automated information systems including strategic planning, analyzing complex issues and difficult systems problems;
  • Ability to communicate complex systems information and ideas effectively and efficiently to attorneys, managers and staff – often with minimal preparation;
  • Ability to rapidly analyze issues, anticipate consequences, make decisions and initiate action;
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows 10 operating system; Microsoft SQL and Access, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Ability to fully administer and maintain MS SQL and MS Access databases;
  • Proficient in legal software platforms (iManage, IntApp, Mobile time entry, West km, Handshake, etc.);
  • Experience in application development process automation and improvement.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to maintain effective relationships with attorneys, clients and staff, in person, by e-mail and telephone;
  • Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain when performing essential duties. Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with time constraints, interruptions, and stressed attorneys and staff.
  • Must be able to work independently but in a team environment to implement and support specific projects on tight schedules.

Practice Support Specialist

Richards, Layton & Finger, Delaware’s largest law firm, seeks an innovative Practice Support Specialist for its IT team in Wilmington, DE. This position’s responsibilities would include:

  • Work with attorneys and paralegals to coordinate activities and provide assistance and education with the Firm's Trial Support Platforms and related Litigation Support Tools along with creating technical documentation;
  • Update/upgrade the Firm's computerized litigation support system under the direction of the Trial Service Manager and keeps abreast of changes in litigation support technology;
  • Promote the use of the Firm’s technology, including the applications used for litigation support, to other practice areas where they may have valuable application;
  • Work with the Firm’s practice areas to determine needs, and develops solutions, using existing or new technology, to improve levels of efficiency and productivity;
  • Make recommendations to the Practice Support Manager regarding ways to improve the Firm’s litigation support and/or practice support systems and documentation;
  • Assist the Practice Support Manager in obtaining cost estimates for upgrades and maintenance of the Firm's computerized litigation support system;
  • Work collaboratively with other Litigation Support Specialist(s) and paralegals as appropriate;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Practice Support Manger, on firm client projects. Communicating actively and thoroughly on all client case items.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience with computer technology and support of users in a networked environment and possess a high degree of understanding of trial services deliverables;
  • Must be knowledgeable about litigation and trial support processes and experienced in using a computerized litigation support systems, (such as Summation, Concordance, iPro/ SE, Trial Director, Relativity and/or Livenote);
  • Must be highly detail oriented and proficient at coordinating coding/imaging projects;
  • Must possess a high degree of technical expertise and superior problem-solving skills;
  • Experience with Windows 10, and current mobile computing platforms;
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly; install, configure and maintain software, customize applications and automate tasks, give direction to and work with attorneys and support staff and evaluate new software and hardware and make recommendations regarding same;
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Ability to deal with interruptions and multiple pressures;
  • Must be flexible in work routine and work overtime as needed. Overtime is a frequent occurrence and work availability is a requirement of the position.
